This
annual award is presented "to the goaltender(s) having played
a minimum of 25 games for the team with the fewest goals scored
against it." The trophy was presented by the NHL Board of Governors
in 1981-82 in honour of the late William Jennings.
Jennings was a long time hockey fan and advocate. He served as president of the New York Rangers in the mid '60's and was a big supporter of expansion and supported the growth of hockey in New York by initiating Metropolitan Junior Hockey Association in 1966. Jennings was also the impetus behind the establishment of the Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the United States. |
