The
Art Ross Trophy was presented to the NHL in 1947 by the former manager/coach
of the Boston Bruins, Art Ross. Ross himself was an innovator in
hockey, noted for being the first coach to pull his goalie for an
extra attacker. The award is presented to the player who leads the
league in scoring points at the end of the regular season. If there
is a tie at the end of the season for points, it is broken as follows:
1.
The player with the most goals.
2. The player with the fewer number of games played.
3. The player who scored the first goal of the season.
The
winner receives $10,000 with the runners up receiving $6,000 and
$4,000.
